The Westford Diversity Network is a community-based group comprised of members from the school department, public library, parents, high school student body, community center, clergy, and other town groups.

Our Mission Statement
To foster a climate of respect and acceptance for all members of the Westford community; to secure an enriched environment for all through education, information, and celebration.
Over the past three years, the group has quietly strived to make small changes in the ways that we respond to the commonalties and differences among us and to create a climate of increasing respect. We have built upon many initiatives that are currently taking place in Westford while sharing their energy and commitment.

Community Efforts Which We Have Supported

  • Activities of W.O.R.D. ( Westford Opposes Racial Discrimination) - a student organization at Westford Academy.
  • Development of a holiday calendar used in the school system.
  • Participation at the Strawberry 'n Arts Festival. We have sponsored a booth highlighting the rich cultural background of Westford residents.
  • Roudenbush calendar of cultural activities.
  • Speakers such as Althea Smith, a consultant with Visions, Inc. who spoke to a variety of groups in Westford about cultural sensitivity and racial awareness.

Our Future Goals

  • Establish a resource library with a variety of materials centered around diversity to be housed at the Fletcher Library.
  • Sponsor forums for the Westford community which will provide an opportunity for people to come together to share experiences, information, and backgrounds.
  • Continue participating with Project Alliance which is run by the Middlesex District Attorney's office. The Alliance runs workshops and forums around these issues for interested people in the county.
