Form Spam! Spammers have found a new way to get their messages out. They have developed computer programs that search the web for on line forms. When the computers find the forms, they enter their information and submit the form. The spammers hope that all of the unrestricted, free posting blog and data entry web sites will automatically add their information to those web sites. The Westford Web has no unrestricted, free posting web pages. All information submitted to the Westford Web is reviewed by someone associated with the web site. No information can automatically be added to the web site by an unauthorized person. However, our review queue is getting filled up with form submissions, and we have to filter those submissions manually. This results in a slow down of our process, consumes valuable time, and might result in the accidental deletion of a valid submission. We have found that the spam/form robots have not figured out how to select check boxes - for now. By adding a required checkbox, we are able to stop the robots from submitting spam via our forms.
