LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS - WESTFORD, MA
Minutes of the Regular Board Meeting
December 4, 2002

Meeting held at the Roudenbush Community Center, Westford, MA.

CALL TO ORDER:

Debra Grad, President, called the Regular Board Meeting to order at 7:40 p.m.

PRESENT:

Lynn Cohen, Debra Grad, Chris Kandianis, Pam Holland, Valerie Wormell, Chris Yablonski, Karen McKenzie, Karen Cavanagh and Linda Newhard.

WEBMASTER'S PRESENTATION:

Webmaster, Karen Cavanagh, gave a presentation on the Westford League of Women Voters Webpage. Discussions took place on how to keep the webpage updated and what information was to be included. Assignments were given to various members who will provide Karen information to help keep the webpage current.

TREASURER'S REPORT:

Cash on hand: $3,720.16
C.D.'s: 3,248.07

Total: $6,968.23

(The postal account balance will no longer be reported monthly per suggestion of the auditor. It is money that is not recoverable.)

Other

- Make a motion to pay remaining balance, $800.00, on book loan
- Recommend sending second notices to non-renewing members
- Recommend transferring funds from the checking account to the reserves

Valerie Wormell made a motion to pay the remaining balance of $800.00 on the book loan. Karen McKenzie seconded and the Board unanimously agreed.

It was recommend by Valerie Wormell to transfer some of the funds back into the C.D.

Valerie Wormell made a motion that second notices be sent out to non-renewing members, Lynn Cohen seconded and the Board unanimously agreed.

Valerie Wormell asked that if we do not hear from these people within two weeks, that personal follow-up calls be made.

Lynn Cohen made a motion to accept the Treasurer's report, Karen McKenzie seconded, and the Board unanimously agreed.

MINUTES:

Lynn Cohen made a motion to accept the November Minutes, Valerie Wormell seconded, and the Board unanimously agreed with the following revisions:

Under MINUTES the second paragraph should read as follows: Valerie Wormell withdrew her earlier motion regarding increasing the price of the book: "Westford-A Sense of Community."

Ratifying Remote Votes:

Under MEMBERSHIP the fourth paragraph, Chris Kandianis made a motion to reverse Lynn Cohen's motion about not charging new members who signed up at the Link-up With the League event. Lynn Cohen seconded, and the following Board unanimously agreed.

Lynn Cohen made a motion that the Westford League pay for dinner for LWVM
Co-presidents Nancy Carapezza & Dona Kemp, Valerie Wormell seconded. Karen McKenzie and Debra Grad agreed.

MEMBERSHIP:

Chris Kandianis handed out a summary on the Link-Up With the League, which was held on November 21 at Ellen Harde's house. A discussion with the Board followed.

Chris Kandianis gave a database update. Chris reported that she, Chris Yablonski and Pam Holland continue to work on the survey to try to get more people involved. Membership incentive numbers are still on target. It is currently at 68 members.

PROGRAM:

Lynn Cohen reported on the Traffic Forum which has been set for 9:30 a.m. Saturday, January 11 and January 25 as the snow date. Lynn Cohen and Valerie Wormell are contacting possible panel participants. Lynn called Police Chief Welch to ask him to participate and see if he has any suggestions as to other participants in the forum. Valerie Wormell contacted Mark Hamill and Chip Barrett of the Highway Department and Beverly Woods of the Northern Middlesex Council of Governments, who have agreed to participate. Lynn will follow up regarding a Moderator, if it is determined that one is necessary.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE:

Lynn Cohen made a motion that the following people be appointed to the Nominating Committee: Ingrid Nilsson, Jen Heil, Karen McKenzie, Karen Cavanagh and Pam Holland. Valerie Wormell seconded and the Board unanimously agreed.

VOTER SERVICE:

Lynn Cohen suggested inviting Rick McHugh's American Government class to the LWVM's Day on the Hill, scheduled for April 30, 2003. The Board agreed, and Lynn offered to write the invitiation to Mr. McHugh.

ALL BOARD:

Valerie Wormell reported that the Tax Classification Committee would be meeting next month.

Next meeting to be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2003, 7:30 p.m. at the J.V. Fletcher Library.

Meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
