The Westford Museum is located near
the historic town Common at 2 Boston Road in Westford,
Massachusetts. The office is at 4 Boston Road. The
Museum houses a wonderful collection of artifacts
typical of small towns. If your interest is genealogy,
be sure and contact us as we have excellent materials
covering many old Westford families. And if
old Westford houses interest you we have house histories
as well. We also have an almost complete collection
of Westford Academy yearbooks, many photographs of
students and teachers, and other academy memorabilia.
If you are looking for a gift that is uniquely Westford,
be sure and check our Museum
Store page.
Before you visit, double-check the Museum
Calendar as there are a few holiday Sundays when
we are closed. If you're doing research don't
hesitate to send an e-mail or call ahead so we can prepare
for your visit. We look forward to meeting you.
WESTFORD MUSEUM PARTICIPATES IN HERITAGE PRESERVATION'S
CONSERVATION ASSESSMENT PROGRAM
Heritage Preservation is pleased to announce the Westford Historical Society (WHS) and Museum has been chosen to participate in the 2011 Conservation Assessment Program (CAP). The Westford Museum joins the 2,600 museums that have participated in CAP in its twenty-one year history of serving small museums. Heritage Preservation's CAP is supported through a cooperative agreement with the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services. CAP assists museums by providing funds for professional conservation and preservation specialists to identify the conservation needs of their collections and historic buildings and recommend ways to correctly improve collections and building conditions.
CAP provides a general conservation assessment of the museum's collections and historic buildings. The professional conservators will spend two days surveying the site and three days preparing comprehensive reports that will identify conservation priorities. The on-site consultation will enable the WHS to evaluate its current collections care policies, procedures, and environmental conditions. The assessment reports will help the WHS Board and the Town of Westford make appropriate improvements for the immediate, mid-range, and long-range care of their collections and historic structures.
