Troop Meetings & Policies | Leadership Positions | Advancement

All advancement requirements are listed in the Boy Scout Handbook. At the Scoutmaster’s discretion, the program can be modified for Scouts with disabilities.

Signing-off Requirements

Advancement requirements may be signed off by a Scout, First Class or above, holding a rank at least two ranks higher than the rank for which he is signing. Registered leaders may also sign off rank requirements. Siblings, parents and other not involved in Scouting MAY NOT sign off advancement. A Scout should make sure the person signing off his book both dates and initials each requirement. Remember to bring your book (in a Ziploc bag!) to all Troop meetings and camping trips!!!

Merit Badges

Scouts wishing to start a Merit Badge must have approval of a Scoutmaster before beginning any Merit Badge. A list of Merit Badge counselors is on the bulletin board at the church. If you want to do a badge, but don’t see anyone listed for that particular badge, please see the Scoutmaster or Advancement Chair.

A “Blue Card” must be filled out by the Scout and signed by a Scoutmaster and qualified Merit Badge Counselor BEFORE he begins any work onthe Merit Badge. Only the Merit Badge Counselor listed on the Blue Card may sign off requirements. Upon completion of the Merit Badge, the counselor will sign the Blue Card. Blue cars must be logged into the green Merit Badge Log Book when all requirements are complete. Blue Cards go in the clear envelope in the front of the book. Merit Badges will not be awarded until all these requirements are complete.

Service Hours

Once reaching the rank of Tenderfoot, each rank advancement requires the Scout to perform a specific number of service hours. these generally involve performing some task which benefits the church or community. these projects must be approved in advance by the Scoutmaster for the Scout to receive credit. the service must be performed as outlined in the Boy Scout Handbook. As an example, extra hours done while a Scout worked on First Class cannot be applied against hours required for Star.

Boards of Review

When a Scout completes all the requirements for his rank, including his Scoutmaster Conference, he may request a Board of Review.
