Learn About Orienteering

One of our Eagle Scout projects was to design and
construct an
orienteering course on
Westford Conservation Commission land in the
Nashoba Brook Watershed area. The course allows visitors to
practice their map and compass skills and enjoy the area. The course
lengths will vary but the average course will be from a ¼ mile to a
½ mile in length, including courses at of least 1 mile long. The
orienteering course is marked by 4X4 posts placed at the
intersections of trails in the conservation area. Each post is
marked with a unique symbol to aid in orienting maps. There is
also a practice course in the parking lot located at the end of
Trailside Way, just off Powers Road.
A brochure
providing information about how to use a map and compass is
available here at the kiosk at the Trailside parking lot. This
brochure also has information about the courses in the watershed,
including the practice course.
