It's time to prepare for our Twenty-six th Annual Greater Lowell Walk for Hunger! The Walk is on Good Friday, March 21st beginning between 8:00 and 9:00am at St. Mark's Church, 75 Cold Spring Road in Westford. We would like to invite you and members of your school, organization or congregation to participate. The proceeds from our Annual Walk are distributed to local community agencies to help fight hunger: the Alternative House, the House of Hope, the Lowell Transitional Living Center , The Open Pantry of Greater Lowell, the Merrimack Valley Food Bank Mobile Food Pantry, and the food pantries in Westford and Chelmsford . Our national outreach is through Sharing, Inc. whose mission is to eliminate poverty and hunger, wherever they exist. Last year we raised and distributed nearly $27,000 to help our local agencies feed the hungry. We are also pleased to announce our continuing affiliation with The Feinstein Foundation who provides matching funds to many organizations in the fight against .

As a reminder to our local youth, who may be required to complete community or self-improvement projects for programs within their organizations - this is an excellent project that would satisfy either requirement. The youth of the area have the day off from school and are traditionally the “backbone” of our Walk for Hunger effort. The walk is a 13-mile scenic course consisting of two loops(4.2 & 8.8 miles) to and from St. Mark's Episcopal Church, with the opportunity to walk one or both parts through Westford and Chelmsford and with convenient stops to rest and mingle with new and old friends. There are crossing guards posted at all street intersections; first aid services, a PB & J lunch at West Chelmsford United Methodist Church, and van rides back at any time your body protests too much.

Walk sheets are available here for download and printing. As you sign up sponsors for the Walk, we suggest that you collect their donations in advance to save time and make registration easier. Each person, bringing in $125 or more on the day of the Walk, will receive a free Walk for Hunger T-shirt

We encourage you to patronize those businesses that provide us with services or products to help defray the costs of operating the walk. Patron support is provided by Costco, Dunkin Donuts, Gardiner Design, Hannaford's, Kwik Kopy, Market Basket , Ratta Corp., Sam's Club, Stop & Shop, Trader Joe's, Trinity EMS, WalMart , and Welch's Juice . Thanks to all for helping us toward this year's goal of $35,000.

For information or an opportunity to volunteer, please call Dave Eberiel 978-256-3539 or e-mail him at David_Eberiel@uml.edu . And, now please download your Walk Sheet and begin to sign up donation sponsors!
