The Westford Parent Connection is celebrating its tenth anniversary during the 2010–2011 school year. The WPC was formed in 2001 to provide Westford parents and guardians enrichment and educational events to help address a variety of social and emotional issues pertaining to their children's development. The WPC works collaboratively with groups throughout the community, to ensure we address the right topics at the right time. We are grateful for the support from the Westford Public Schools, the Westford Health Department, the Roudenbush Community Center, the Westford Elementary PTO, and the Westford Middle School PTO. To learn more about the organization, contact WPC President Mary Anne Seraphin at mseraphin@comcast.net.
No parent wants their children to be bullied. Or for their own kids to be the ones who are doing the bullying. Join the Westford Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) and the Westford Parent Connection on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 for the presentation, Bullying & Teasing: Ending The Bullying Cycle. The evening's speaker is Donna Shea, director of The Peter Pan Center in Harvard, MA. Ms. Shea will discuss the role each player has in the bullying cycle: the bully, the henchmen, the target, supporters, passive supporters, disengaged onlookers, possible defenders, and defenders. She will outline some of the ways some children present a greater target for bullies, and will teach parents how to help all kids empower themselves, regardless of the roles they play. Ms. Shea's presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Stony Brook Middle School auditorium, 9 Farmer Way, Westford. The event is free and open to the public, and is appropriate for parents, teachers, and caregivers of children of all ages and abilities. The evening is sponsored by the Westford SEPAC and the WPC.
